Concordia College Musical 2022
Oliver! has everything that a great musical can offer and the journey to bring this story to life began for our cast, crew and pit band in November 2021.
With rehearsals ready to begin in January, we were hurled off course by COVID-19 and the future of the show was in jeopardy. Luckily, with lots of determination, we were able to forge ahead, and preparation truly began in Week 6. Rehearsals were rigorous, a lot of fun and so rewarding as new skills were learned and new friendships formed. As a huge ensemble, our awesome cast, crew, and pit band embraced every challenging COVID-19 tinged step of bringing this work from page to stage with inspiring gusto.
So, after over 160 hours of rehearsal, 124 students from Years 7-12 descended upon the Hopgood Theatre in Noarlunga from June 12-14 to perform five extraordinary shows. They absolutely nailed every element of the storytelling for standing ovations at every performance! Their professional approach to the most exceptionally high standards on stage, in the wings, in the technical booths or in the orchestra pit was admired by their audiences.
Musical Theatre is an art form that integrates singing, acting, dancing, musicianship, design, technology and elements of production for the purposes of storytelling... and what an extraordinary learning experience these young people have engaged with! No matter their future, they will remember this for life and the skills they have embedded will serve them in any profession they choose to pursue.
To our audience - great theatre is a gift from the artist to you and it must entertain, educate and inspire. We hope that you feel as though you witnessed a piece of great theatre at the Hopgood through experiencing Concordia’s Oliver!
