Youth opportunities through Unley Council

The City of Unley is offering some free Life Skills for Young People workshops in the October school holidays. In late 2021, a team of seven Concordia College students participated in the City of Unley Design-athon Competition, the team is pictured. As the winning school, Concordia College students presented their winning idea to Elected Council Members. It is very exciting to see that the City of Unley and the Living Young Reference Group have taken the winning idea and are delivering a series of free life skills workshops for young people, based on the suggestions provided by the Concordia College students.

In 2022, four of our students were successful in their application to become members of this year’s Unley Council Living Young Reference Group. This will give these students an opportunity to engage with Council and other local organisations about issues that are important to them, giving them a real chance to make positive contributions to their local area. The students are inducted as Council volunteers and will have access to a range of training and skill development opportunities. Congratulations to:

We would love to see many Concordia College students take part in these workshops. They will all be held at the Fullarton Park Community Centre.

What are my rights? Tips for Young Workers for Ages 14 – 25 Years

Wednesday 12 October, 10am – 12pm

This workshop will provide some top tips about work, from preparing your resume to knowing what to do if you have trouble with your employer. We will cover your rights as a job seeker, how to know if you are getting paid correctly, and how to keep yourself safe in the workplace.

Easy and Affordable Cooking for Ages 12 – 25 Years

Thursday 13 October, 11am – 12pm

Together we will prepare an easy, nourishing and affordable lunch and healthy snack - suitable for all cooking levels. Facilitated by Nourish.

Money Management for Young People Ages 14 – 25 Years

Thursday 13 October, 1pm – 3pm

Learn concepts that develop financial literacy and real-world money skills. Facilitated by Uniting Communities.
