ELC and Primary School
‘Dreaming with eyes open’ was the theme for Book Week this year. Students engaged in a range of activities to celebrate this special week in the Resource Centre.
Rebecca from Pegi Williams Bookshop shared brand new books with the Year 3–6s and they chose books that they hoped would be purchased for the Resource Centre. We were able to purchase over 70 of these titles.
Mandy Foot, a local author and illustrator, met with ELC – Year 2 students, showing them her scrapbook of drawings and sharing about how she got started as an illustrator. She read one of the books with each year level and either drew with the students or invited them to help her with illustration ideas. The students thoroughly enjoyed her visit.
All students visited the Book Fair in the Resource Centre and ended the week dressing as a book character. There was a huge variety of characters – Minecraft, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Thing 1 & Thing 2, Snow White and the seven dwarves, Three Little Pigs, Cat in the Hat, Where’s Wally, a dictionary and many more. The staff enjoyed dressing up as The Very Hungry Caterpillar as well.
During a couple of lunchtimes last week, a craft activity related to a shortlisted book was set up in the Resource Centre. A photo booth, including three cut out book face covers, has also been set up in the Resource Centre for students to have fun taking photos of each other.
