Walk My Way is a charity event run by Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS). The goal of the event is to walk a long distance (13km or 20km) to raise money to send children who are living in refugee camps, in places like East Africa and Myanmar, to school. The walk helped us to be compassionate for our brothers and sisters escaping war and tragedy, but at the end of their walk, they were not met with a sausage sizzle and an iced coffee, they were met with tents, maize, and poverty. Money raised from this walk goes towards sending children in refugee camps to school, so they can get the education they need to build a life for themselves. Every $26 raised goes towards a full year of education for a child. We raised $21 000, which is enough for over 800 students!
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – 1 Peter 4:10.
We in Australia are blessed, and God calls us to share our gifts and skills. ALWS works with many people worldwide who are much less fortunate than us. They help them build a life and provide them with the skills and resources they need, sharing the gifts and love of God in their work. As Concordians, we aim to serve one another and God, and be compassionate and committed in all things.
What a great experience we had!
