On Thursday 27 October, Lily (11RGOG) was one of 12 South Australian students invited to attend a Civics and Citizenship Convention. All the States and Territories were represented, and the day involved zoom meetings live from Old Parliament House in Canberra and lively debates. Participants listened to a range of Professors present on topics like:
- The history and introduction of compulsory voting in Australia
- Consideration of the arguments for and against compulsory voting.
Students left the event with a much deeper understanding of the evolution of our State’s democratic process. There was also a realisation of the true privilege and power that comes with entering a polling booth.
