The sixth of December is a very special day in Germany called “St Nikolaus Tag” and a day acknowledged in German-speaking countries as a very special day in the Christian church calendar each year. As part of our current unit of work, students have been learning about St Nikolaus Tag and its significance.
On Monday this week at the end of the school day, our Reception students carefully placed their shoes at the front of their respective classrooms ready for St Nikolaus. When students arrived at school on Tuesday, they checked their shoes to discover that St Nikolaus had visited overnight with traditional treats for each of them hidden in their shoes to signify this special day. In addition to this, we will be having a little celebration in our German lesson with songs and some traditional St Nikolaus activities next week.
We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating St Nikolaus Tag!
