Starting a New School Year
The commencement of the 2023 school year in the Middle and Senior School can be summed up using the following descriptors – calm, focused and collegial. Over 150 students new to the Middle and Senior School have settled quickly into Concordia routines, and the dozen new staff are operating as if they have been here for years. This can be put down to the way returning students and staff have welcomed the newcomers and supported their transition to our community.
This start is in stark contrast to the beginning of 2022 where external factors managed to impose conditions that made the establishment of a cohesive community so difficult.
Already, the busy calendar of a campus of more than 1000 staff and students is in full swing, with events running for students and for parents. This week, we have Parent Information Evenings for Years 7-8, 10, and 11-12. Next week we will conclude these important events with the Year 9 Parent Information Evening. We are also deep in preparation for our new Year 7 cohort to head off to camp in Week 3. An early camp supports the formation of new relationships and builds a sense of team from 140 students who have come from more than 30 separate primary schools. And rehearsals for the College Musical, All Shook Up, have been occurring since mid-January.
The Year 12 Student Leaders along with House Captains were installed last Friday at our campus Commencement Service, and Middle School Student Leaders will receive their badges of office at our first assembly this Friday.
