This year marked another successful year for Concordia College’s secondary inter-school chess teams. With a number of our players needing an added challenge, we moved up to Division 2 this year, entering two teams. With the majority of our players in Years 7–9, the students were often playing against students who were older and more experienced. Our players showed great resilience and sportsmanship, however, and entered each round with enthusiasm.
We were very pleased to learn that Concordia 1 was ranked 7th (out of 35 teams), and Concordia 2 (only three points behind Concordia 1) was ranked equal 16th. These are outstanding results for the first year in this Division, and all players are to be congratulated.
Special thanks and recognition are due to Mina (12KNIC), who scored a “double win” on the final night of the season. This was a fitting way to end Mina’s five years of service as a member of the Concordia College inter-school chess teams, and we hope to welcome him back in a coaching role next year.
