As part of the Year 5s' inquiries into 'How We Organise Ourselves', focusing on the central idea that ‘the ways governments gain power and make decisions affects communities’, students visited Unley Council. Students first were welcomed by Mayor Michael Hewitson AM and then participated in a mock council meeting, debating the issue of how to encourage rate-payers to limit the decrease of the Unley tree canopy. Students learnt about the role of Unley Council and the decisions it makes that affect our community. We thank the parent volunteers who supported the excursion… and the rain for staying away.
