On Tuesday 14 May, the Year 11 cohort took part in a 'Steps to Success' Day. The day focused on responsible decision making, time management and motivation, relaxation and the importance of a balanced lifestyle; all important contributors to success.
The day began with a road safety awareness presentation by speakers from the Metropolitan Fire Service. Students learnt the importance of responsible behaviour, not only as a driver, but also as a passenger and a pedestrian.
After a catered morning tea, the students gathered in the Chapel for presentations on motivation and time management. Led by Sam Ghamrawi of Sekseed, these sessions were engaging, providing the students with many practical tips that can be implemented immediately.
Relaxation electives after lunch included yoga, a walk around the block, mindful colouring, music for relaxation and silent reading. The day ended with a range of activity choices designed to facilitate socialising and movement, including netball, board games, cooking, a gym workout, candle painting and table tennis. We hope that these sessions will have given the students ideas of activities that they can implement in their daily life to provide them with a balanced lifestyle, as well as to help them to “unwind”. Ensuring a balanced lifestyle, that includes adequate relaxation and physical activity, will be particularly important as the students approach their Semester 1 exams.
