Q&A with Matthew Webster, Year 5/6 Teacher — St Peters Campus

1. Where were you before this and what persuaded you to join Concordia College?

Over the past 25 years I’ve been really fortunate to have worked in schools internationally, from London to Dubai and then China. Most recently I’ve been at Wilderness School for the past few years. The opportunity to reconnect with the IB PYP in a setting with such a strong reputation like Concordia has, was a huge incentive.

2. Three words to describe you.

Caring, adaptable, fun.

3. What is your motivation or inspiration in your role?

The amazing educators I was fortunate to have worked with as a student have had a lasting impact on me, some of whom have become family friends over the years. To replicate this in fostering a love of learning in the young people with whom I work, to learn for learning’s sake, is a big motivator.

4. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Flight... or invisibility. That could be interesting.

5. Who would you invite to a dinner party of six guests and why? Alternatively, tell us something you might like to share that we could not possibly know?

I’ve always been a big fan of pro wrestling (don’t judge) so I’d invite some of them. Funny story – my school’s owners in China were the main sponsors of a WWE event in Hong Kong, and some of the wrestlers actually came to our school and did some cooking with our students! Bizarre, but true.
