St Peters Campus Year 3/4 Update

20 June 2024

We are delighted to provide an update on what our students have been learning and experiencing in our St Peter's Year 3/4 classroom this term.

Unit of Inquiry: 'Connection to Country Shapes Our Understanding of the World'

We have been engaged in our current Unit of Inquiry, which explores how our connection to the land shapes our perspectives and understanding. During National Reconciliation Week, we spent time researching Kaurna language with our ELC buddies, and exploring associated symbols and significant events. Students continue to show enthusiasm with delving into Australian history, understanding differing perspectives and celebrating our diverse cultural heritage.

Writers Workshop: Becoming Authors

Our young learners have been busy crafting their own poetry books, which are nearing completion. Students have loved the opportunities to develop their creative writing skills, whilst exploring the requirements of book publishing and design. They are very proud of their achievements and excited to finalise our hard copies of their books to share with classes and families.

Mathematics: Exploring Numbers and Fractions

In mathematics, we have continued to explore number and begin our unit of study of fractions. Recently, the students had a hands-on lesson involving M&Ms, where they used these tasty treats to learn about and manipulate fractions. This concrete approach has made learning about fractions practical, engaging and memorable for our little mathematicians.

Musical: Preparation for the Final Production

Lastly, our students have been immersed in preparations for our upcoming musical production. They have been practicing diligently and are eagerly looking forward to showcasing their talents in the final performance. The musical promises to be a wonderful opportunity for our students to demonstrate all their hard work and team work.

We are very proud of the progress and enthusiasm our students have shown in these various areas of learning, and thank families for their continued support and encouragement at home.
