Year 8 Languages Excursions

On Tuesday of Week 6 our Year 8 Chinese and German classes attended two excursions.

German students attended a film screening at the Palace Nova of 'Das fliegende Klassenzimmer' (The Flying Classroom) as part of the German Film Festival’s ‘Kino for Kids’ program. The film is an adaptation of the novel ‘The Flying Classroom' by best-selling German author Erich Kaestner. The film is set in a school in the Bavarian Alps and is centred around a battle between the ‘Internen’ (borders) and the ‘Externen’ (day students), who ultimately join forces and become friends. Judging by the applause at the end of the film, the students really enjoyed the story not to mention the beautiful scenery! They were able to test out their comprehension skills by listening to the German spoken in the film and heard some familiar and new German vocabulary!

Chinese students enjoyed their excursion to Chinatown and the Central Market in the city. Whilst exploring the architecture and browsing the shops in Chinatown, students immersed themselves in Chinese culture and practised their Chinese speaking skills. For lunch, some students went to Dumpling King where they ordered food on their own. Below are some student reflections:

“老师,谢谢你!I was very happy to have privilege of going to Chinatown with my classmate. I had a positive experience and bought a lot of drinks and snacks. I ahvd an amazing lunch too.” - Vasi

“你好,Mr Ding. I really loved my experience in Chinatown, it was fun hanging out with friends and trying new foods in the Chinese culture. I tried duck for the first time and it was delicious. Thank you.”Christian

“Chinatown was fun! I enjoyed going in and out of the stores and exploring. The culture was evident throughout Chinatown. Thank you, Mr Ding, for taking us to Chinatown! I had lots of fun! And I am very grateful…” – Addie
