Egg Hatching in the ELC

Over the past two weeks in the ELC we have been observing baby chicks emerging from their eggs. The chicks and eggs have been of great interest to the children and have provided a range of learning opportunities. For example:

  • Discussions around life cycles and God’s creations
  • Mathematical concepts of time, data collecting, ordinal number, amounts and shape
  • Researching information from posters and non-fiction books to find out facts
  • Building new vocabulary such as: hatcher/incubator and brooder
  • Communication skills expressing thoughts and observations
  • Demonstrating dispositions of curiosity, enthusiasm, imagination and being respectful, caring and empathetic.
