On Friday of Week 8, the Year 11 students took part in the annual Mt Lofty Challenge Day. With blue sky and sunshine, but cool temperatures, the weather was perfect for a day of hiking, reflections and team games. Emulating the journey that the students will take in Year 12, the day began with the easiest section of the route – a hike from Mt Lofty Summit into the Piccadilly Valley, stopping at the lower Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens for lunch and team games. After lunch, we hiked to the upper car park; a challenging uphill climb that can perhaps be compared to the final assignments that the students undertake in Term 3. The track then led us along the Old Bullock Track and after a short break for positive affirmations and chocolate, we set off on the final part of the journey - a short but steeper climb to Mt Lofty Summit (which we compared to the final Year 12 exams). Parts of the hike were challenging, but we all completed it in record time, enjoying the magnificent views and great sense of achievement at the end of the day.
The day was a good opportunity for students to take a break from their computer screens and reset, ready to tackle the final two weeks of term with a clear mind. Friendships were made and strengthened, and our Student Leader candidates were able to demonstrate their leadership skills in a new environment. Staff and students alike thoroughly enjoyed the day, and everyone is to be commended on their enthusiasm and positive approach.
