Recently, ABC News reported that Australian student photos were being obtained without consent for use in the LAION-5B dataset for facial recognition.
Concordia College takes the privacy and security of personal information (including images) very seriously. There are a number of measures in place to ensure that student images are stored and used appropriately.
The College utilises highly secure Microsoft services for student and staff document and file sharing. In addition, our secure media repository is fully controlled by our College ICT Department. All image processing by this system is undertaken within the system and not sent to external third-party systems.
As always, the safety of our students, staff and community remains our highest priority.
