It is now nearly 12 months since the opening of Fortiter and Wirrkuta Trruku, the College’s new indoor sporting and event facilities.
Fortiter houses a two-court gymnasium and associated learning spaces, weights room, dance room and café. Wirrkuta Trruku provides a new home for Primary School Physical Education staff offices, Out of School Hours Care, Art and Languages rooms. The activity hall space caters for indoor PE classes, Chapel, Assembly meetings and exhibitions.
These facilities were not only built to support the Physical Education curriculum, but also to assist the College in providing indoor space for a range of events, rather than taking them off site.
Since their inception, both have lived up to expectations. The College now has a space in Fortiter to gather together its 1,300-strong student population, highlighted by the success of the Commencement Service for all three campuses at the beginning of the year.
Across the year, in addition to teaching and learning, the facilities have been (and will be) used for Concordia in Concert, Book Week, Valedictory Dinner, Launchpad learning showcase, the P&F Quiz Night and staff Professional Development days.
Both facilities are also sought-after venues for the local community, with regular bookings by local sporting groups in the evenings and on weekends for basketball, volleyball, netball, badminton, indoor soccer and cricket.
Fortiter will also be the major venue for hosting the Lutheran Church’s National Synodical Convention in the October school holidays. More than 700 representatives from around Australia and New Zealand will congregate in Fortiter, Wirrkuta Trruku and the College Chapel to discuss church business.
We are proud of the extraordinary facilities available to students at Concordia College, and it has been wonderful to see the way these additions have enhanced teaching and learning, while also benefitting the wider community. As a thriving learning community, we are always looking to the future. We trust that these buildings, along with the next stage of our physical master plan, will help us to continue to offer a vibrant education, rich in opportunities, and will be a blessing to Concordia students and their families for many years to come.
