26 Book Challenge

"I find television to be very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go in the other room and read a book." - Groucho Marx

Our student Book Council has worked hard to bring you this year’s 26 Book Challenge—BOOKOPOLY. We encourage all participating students to update their reading record sheets, and with the term break approaching, it's the perfect time to visit the library and stock up on books.

This year's challenge includes a few tricky categories, but our library staff are here to help! Students have been exploring a variety of sources for their reading, including local libraries, bookshops, second-hand stores, and their own collections at home. Many are also making use of eBooks and audiobooks on the Concordia College Wheelers ePlatform, as well as apps like Libby and Spotify.

Students who complete all 26 categories of the challenge will receive a special certificate and be entered into a draw to win books and book vouchers. Those who read at least 13 books will earn a Certificate of Participation and be eligible for prizes.

All participants will be invited to a special event in the library later in Term 4, hosted by the Book Council. Be sure to submit your reading record sheets to the library staff at the circulation desk by Friday 17 November (Week 5).

Check out a few categories from the 2024 26 Book Challenge:

  • Read a book containing one of the following words in its title: race, now, beach, little, stop, burn, story, one or wild.
  • Read a book where the protagonist has a side kick.
  • Read a book written between 1800–1899.
  • Read a book set in a book shop or library.
  • Read a book that has a place in the title (imaginary or real).

'Poem Forest' Poetry Competition

Poem Forest is a free nature writing prize. Poem Forest invites students to use their words to make positive climate action. For every nature poem received, a tree is planted to help heal habitats and create a Poem Forest for future generations. Since 2021, over 17,100 poem trees have been planted.

All Poem Forest entries are published in a digital library and have the chance to win $5,000 in prizes, including $500 cash for each category, plus book packs and more.

Entries are now open, closing Friday 27 September 2024.
