From Friday 6 September to Monday 9 September, the Smith Family Indigenous Youth Leadership Gathering was held in Sydney. Neeka (9CRID) and Nari (9VMEI) were apart of this celebration along with 100 students from around Australia. It was four days of immersion in Indigenous ceremonies and participation in cultural workshops to strengthen their connection and make connections with other young Indigenous students in the leadership program.
The girls were involved in a Welcome to Country with smoking ceremonies as well as dance workshops and art workshops, plus career counselling and self-development sessions. The highlight was the tribal cruise along Sydney Harbour and the privilege to walk on Goat Island where they again were introduced to traditional dance and welcoming and a nature walk to explain how the different vegetation is used in medication and cooking.
