'My Voice in My Hands' Forum

Finlay (10BWHA) recently represented Concordia at the My Voice in My Hands democracy forum facilitated by Unley Council. Held at the Goodwood Institute, Fin was one of three students (along with one from Glenunga and one from Urrbrae) who presented their ideas on:

  • What could be done to help your voice be heard and enable you to be an active citizen in our democracy?
  • What can you do and what could government do?

Fin was on a panel with an eminent collection of experts, including a representative of the Don Dunstan Foundation, a leading Australian expert on democracy and a historian from the Centre for Democracy. He was a brilliant ambassador for our school. We also had ten Year 10 students attend two other sessions at Unley Council earlier last month.

With democracy being in its 18th year of decline around the world, the students who took part in these experiences have come to realise what a precious gift it is to live in Australia – a country that values the voices of its young people.
