Kayaking Through Mangroves and Shipwrecks

7 Nov 2024

Year 11 Geography students participated in a kayaking expedition to Garden Island on Monday 28 October. As part of their studies on ecosystems and oceans the students spent the morning kayaking on the Port River and learning about the mangrove ecosystem and the rich history of shipwrecks. Students collected water sample data to investigate the impact of human activity on Garden Island whilst kayaking through the mangroves and in the shipwreck graveyard. Kayaking skills were varied but all students enjoyed the different method of collecting fieldwork information. After a fantastic day on the water, all students agreed the highlight of the trip was seeing a dolphin swim under our kayaks.
