The Stage 1 Drama class presented their original work, 'Metropolis Now', written in collaboration with their teacher and Drama Coordinator, Aldo Longobardi, over two nights in the Drama Centre last week. Taking inspiration from the musical, 'RENT' and the opera, 'La Boheme', the play centred around a group of artists struggling to survive and thrive in a society dominated by corporate greed, social division, artificial intelligence and terminal illness. The characters discover their ultimate power and rebellion is remaining hopeful and authentic in a society that all-too-often perpetuates fear.
The students gave a committed performance, balancing comedy, pathos and sincerity in a show that truly moved our audiences to consider perspectives of the challenges of our own time.
