In the statewide Year 9/10 Knockout Basketball competition, our girls played a strong basketball school in the semifinals and came out of the gates firing. They held a seven-point lead at halftime and a two-point lead going into the final quarter. Unfortunately, the opposition gained the lead in the last eight minutes and finished as 10-point winners. It was an absolutely amazing effort by the girls and they played some of the best basketball we’ve seen them play all year.
Our boys' team played Sacred Heart in the semifinals. It was point-for-point in the first three quarters where no team could run away with the lead. Concordia managed to get control of the game in the last quarter and finish as 10-point winners. In the grand final, it was evident that we had saved our best game for last, with amazing three-point shooting from the whole team and brilliant teamwork. Over the course of the game we kept extending our lead and eventually finished with a 25-point win! Last year, the 9/10 boys lost the state championship by one point, so it was an incredible effort to win their way back into the championship game and walk away with the gold on this occasion.
The teams were brilliantly coached by Laura Hodges (9/10 girls), James Adcock (9/10 boys), Tom Sutton (assistant).
