Year 9 Visual Art students visited Bridget Currie's Exhibition Each One A World at Carrick Hill recently. As a recent Carrick Hill Artist in Residence, Currie has created a body of work that makes connections to the property, particularly the surrounding natural environment. Her techniques of using printmaking relate to our current Year 9 unit, which is focused on different printmaking techniques, particularly mono-printing and drypoint etching.
For our students, the Carrick Hill Exhibition has shown them ways to think outside of the box when exploring new topics and techniques, especially when venturing into multimedia work. Students have been inspired by how Currie has juxtaposed her mono-printing with a digital wallpaper background and also has created 3D forms which have interactive sound with readings about grasses and the environment.
The Exhibition demonstrated how important it is for students to engage with artworks that they see in real life so that they are encouraged to be more exploratory in their work and to take a more creative direction in their artworks.
Students' interest and understanding is reflected in their written comments in their small group responses to the Exhibition.
