Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award CEO visits Concordia
We recently hosted the national CEO of Duke of Ed Australia, Peter Kaye AM ESM, and other members of the Duke of Ed South Australia leadership team as they visited Concordia. Peter wanted to visit and affirm our great work in offering the Duke of Ed framework and share wonderful new developments that are arriving soon.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia has introduced digital credentials to recognise the achievement of a Duke of Ed Level. This is a new and exciting way for a young person who has completed a Duke of Ed Bronze, Silver or Gold Level to showcase their skill development online with real-time verification. A Duke of Ed digital badge transforms knowledge, skills and achievements into digital credentials that empower individuals to connect with learning and career opportunities. On completing a Duke of Ed Level, a young person will be provided a unique link to simply share their digital credentials via online job and tertiary applications, via social media sites such as LinkedIn, via email and by embedding a link into their resume.
More information on Duke of Ed digital credentials, including access to FAQs are available here.
Democracy in action – Hon Justin Hanson MLC hosts Concordia students
Twelve Year 11 students who took part in the “My Voice in My Hands” democracy project through Unley Council in 2024 were invited on a personal tour of State Parliament with Hon Justin Hanson MLC. They were joined by participating students from two other schools, Urrbrae and Glenunga. The students enjoyed learning about some of the history of the building itself and the important evolution of democratic processes in the state. They were able to share their own learning from the project with a Member of Parliament while enjoying some delicious scones.
CARE @ CC (Community of Advocates for Respect and Empathy)
CARE @ CC is an extra-curricular lunchtime group to connect like-minded students (Years 10–12) who are interested in pursuing a career in medical-related fields. In our group we explore the 'stories' of health. The idea is that by listening to people telling their story, students will gain greater empathy and respect as a future medical professional.
A snapshot of our learning this term:
- A pain and rehabilitation specialist physician with post-graduate qualifications and experience in musculoskeletal and interventional pain medicine.
- Medicine / Dentistry / UCAT information evening.
- A Concordia student sharing their personal experiences of being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
- A rural GP with 30 years’ experience servicing the lower Eyre Peninsula.
Do you work in a health-related field – medicine / nursing / paramedicine / health research / allied health? Would you be willing to come and share your experiences during a lunchtime session (1:20pm – 2:00pm) sometime in the future? We would love to have you visit. Please complete this quick online form.
