This term for our 'Sharing the Planet' unit of inquiry in Year 3 at St John’s Campus, we have been exploring the central idea: Communities understand and respect rules.
To complement our inquiry into the importance of rules in the community, on Friday of Week 9, our Year 3 students visited the new SAPOL Road Safety Centre and the nearby playground. The students heard from police officers about how to stay safe in the community, how to cross the road carefully (Stop, Look, Listen, Think), how different traffic lights work, and the role of police in South Australia. The students were able to apply their new learning to everyday experiences of crossing roads, driving with family members and asking trusted adults for help in times of trouble. A favourite for many was the chance to ride bikes around the track, practising stopping for lights and pedestrians along the way. The students also enjoyed spending time together on the nearby playground and interacting respectfully in the community.
We all had a wonderful time and encourage you to continue the conversation at home about the importance of rules in the community.
