On a crisp autumn morning, our Year 5/6 students from St Peters Campus set off on an exciting excursion to explore the heart of South Australia’s history and government. Our first stop was the South Australian Museum, where we embarked on a self-guided tour of our favourite exhibits, including the interactive Discovery Room, which brought history and science to life.
After a morning of exploration, we enjoyed a relaxing lunch on the lawns before making a meaningful visit to the South Australian War Memorial. Here, we paused to pay our respects and reflect on the sacrifices of those who served our country.
Next, we had the privilege of a guided tour of Government House, where we discovered fascinating stories of South Australia’s past. We learned about the distinguished guests who have stayed there, including Queen Elizabeth II, and gained insight into the Governor’s role in our state.
The highlight of the day was our visit to Parliament House, where we were welcomed by our local MP, Catherine Hutchesson. She led us into the House of Representatives, where we stepped into the shoes of real politicians, debating a bill with passion and enthusiasm.
This excursion was a fantastic opportunity to deepen our understanding of government, history, and leadership, especially as we prepare for our trip to Canberra next term. It was an unforgettable experience that left us inspired and eager to learn more!
