Q&A with Bec Murphy, Director of People and Culture

1. Where were you before this and what persuaded you to join Concordia?

Prior to joining Concordia College I worked at Aerotech, South Australia’s largest privately-owned aviation company. Aerotech has a fleet of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft and the main area of work is in emergency services, conducting fire bombing activity for the CFS during fire season.

My passion for children’s education and wellbeing drove me to join Concordia. I think in many ways I should have been a teacher, as I get so much joy out of helping children grow and learn. When this role came up, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to work with the lucky people who have the incredible privilege to be able to educate and nurture our next generation!

2. Three words to describe you.

Positive, approachable, talkative.

3. What is your motivation or inspiration in your role?

I am inspired by helping people feel engaged and motivated in their roles, all with the aim of enhancing the student experience. It is incredibly fulfilling to support an employees’ growth and to watch them set and achieve their goals, and I believe this helps us in creating a vibrant workplace culture. In my short time at the College so far, it has been such a pleasure to connect with people, learn about their passions and start to gain an understanding of their role. I am excited about continuing to meet and engage with people over the next few months and am so grateful for the warm welcome I have received.

4. If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Many of my close friends and family live interstate or overseas, so I would love to be able to teleport myself around the globe in an instant!

5. Who would you invite to a dinner party of six guests and why? Alternatively, tell us something you might like to share that we could not possibly know?

I would invite people close to me who have passed away, such as grandparents, a close school friend and my father-in-law. They’ve missed out on so much of my life and I would be so grateful to be able to spend time with them again and watch them interact with my children.
