Congratulations to Tahlia 11RGOG who participated in the Youth Parliament program. The Youth Parliament program runs from March to August every year and includes mentoring, a training weekend, a week-long camp and access to Parliament House. Every year, young leaders come together to learn about public speaking, parliamentary etiquette, bill development and youth advocacy. They share their big ideas, discuss the challenges facing South Australia and create solutions in the form of Youth Bills. Tahlia was recently profiled in Unley Life magazine.
“Youth Parliament this year was an incredible opportunity to develop my knowledge and skills surrounding debating, parliamentary procedure and understanding how our government system works. Over the course of this year I have been involved in the climate, environment and energy committee and have developed a bill surrounding setting up a recycling facility in SA for lithium ion batteries. During Parliament week in the July holidays I have had the opportunity to debate my bill and other committees’ bills. I also had the opportunity to meet with Susan Close MP, the current Deputy Premier of South Australia to discuss my bill and had the opportunity to attend a reception at Government House with the current Governor of South Australia.”
Tahlia was awarded Best speaker in the Opposition of the Upper House.
The Youth Parliament program will run again in 2023. Please contact Mrs Rieger for more information.
