Concordia students excel — Headstart, Brain Bee and UN Youth Evatt Diplomacy

9 Dec 2022

Concordia students have been excelling in a range of programs and competitions this year, with students taking hold of incredible opportunities to extend their studies and prepare for their futures.

The University of Adelaide 'Headstart' Scholarship

Year 12 students Jaiden and Isaiah took part in the University of Adelaide's Headstart scholarship program, which gives high achieving students the chance to study at university while completing Year 12. Of a handful of awards presented on the night, Jaiden was awarded Semester 1 Dux for the Headstart cohort and Isaiah was awarded 2022 Top of the Class Award for the highest overall grade in his first year university Psychology subject. In addition, both boys achieved High Distinctions across all four semester subjects they studied this year - an outstanding achievement!

National Brain Bee Challenge Final

Following his success at state level earlier in the year, Year 10 student Luke represented South Australia in the National Finals of the Australia and New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge. Luke has had the opportunity to be coached by neuroscience professors from Curtin and Monash universities to prepare him for four challenges across two days in this prestigious competition. Participants also had the opportunity to attend Australasian Neuroscience Society sessions to meet with scientists, researchers and other students. Luke performed very strongly and is commended on his efforts in representing Concordia, and South Australia, on the national stage.

United Nations Youth Evatt Diplomacy Competition

Through the Youth Evatt Diplomacy competition, students engage in world issues through debating mock Security Council resolutions from the position of an assigned country. Two Concordia students, Tahlia (Year 11) and Lily (Year 10), were selected as a South Australian team to participate in the National Final, eventually advancing to the Grand Final and representing the College beautifully.

We are very proud of these students and their extraordinary achievements and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for each of them.
