Returning to ‘the Mount’ after a three-year hiatus following the cancellation of Generations in Jazz during the pandemic, a Concordia contingent of 67 band and choral students joined over 5,000 others from around the country for this national competition.
With months of rehearsal time preparing them well for the weekend, our students presented a shining example of supporting one another, lifting our own standards and following instructions ‘to the letter’. We were delighted to receive pleasing results, including three top ten finishes: Mattson Jazz Choir (2nd - Division 1), Big Band 2 (5th - Division 3) and Big Band 1 (8th – Division 2). Year 7 student Moses was also selected for the Division 3 Super Band, which is an amazing achievement.
In addition to the competition, our students performed for students from Kalangadoo Primary School and Nangwarry Primary School. Our Head of Music Performance, Mat Noble, and his two daughters (Years 9 and 12) were also interviewed on ABC Radio about ‘Generations’ and music at Concordia. These opportunities to connect with the local and wider community through the trip were hugely rewarding. We look forward to returning in 2024!
