Following our Harmony in the Chapel event, which included an opportunity for Old Concordians who began at the College 70 or more years ago to meet for a reunion after the concert, the next musical engagement in our calendar was the inaugural String Soiree. The audience was treated to a range of extraordinary performances, featuring our multi-award-winning String Ensemble, Chamber Strings, Cello Ensemble, Heilig Quartet, Harmonie Quartet and Eiheit Quartet. Under the expert guidance of ensemble directors Martin Butler, Therese O’Brien, Michael Milton and Stephan Richter, our students played to a standard not often witnessed in a school setting.
The exceptional outcomes displayed on the night were a testament to the significant learning that stemmed from preparing for this wonderful evening of music.
Later in the term, a capacity crowd gathered at one of Adelaide’s most iconic music venues ‘The Gov’ for our annual Vocal Cabaret, as students shared their music with family members and friends. Performances from solo singers in Years 10-12 and from Big Band 1, Mattson Jazz, McKenzie Jazz, the Testosterphones, our Senior Choir and our Year 9 choir showcased a varied repertoire to entertain the audience throughout the evening. The courage and hard work of our students was certainly evident and their willingness to share their gifts on stage was deeply appreciated.
